Mentalisation-Based Therapy
Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people develop a better understanding of their own thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and relationships. The term "mentalising" refers to our ability to make sense of what is happening in our own minds and to consider what may be happening in the minds of others.
When people are experiencing stress, strong emotions, trauma, relationship difficulties, or mental health challenges, the ability to mentalise can become disrupted. This can lead to misunderstandings, intense emotional reactions, difficulties in relationships, or feeling confused about our own experiences.
MBT aims to strengthen self-awareness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness by helping people become more curious about their internal experiences and the perspectives of others. It can be particularly helpful for people experiencing difficulties with emotions, relationships, identity, attachment, or personality-related concerns.
